Birds at Lime Kiln Bay – 19 April 2025

I thought it may be worthwhile visiting Lime Kiln Bay, and nearby Oatley Park to look for birds to photograph. It certainly was worthwhile.

I walked to Lime Kiln Bay Reserve from Mortdale Station, and then unpacked my camera and binoculars and started looking to see what was around.

This is the first bird I spotted. I think it is a juvenile Fan-tailed Cuckoo

White-faced Heron

Royal Spoonbill

Crimson Rosella

Brown Thornbill

There were lost of Grey Fantails around. Here is one –

Golden Whistler

Brown Thornbill

Grey Fantail

Little Pied Cormorant

Royal Spoonbill

White-faced Heron

Little Pied Cormorant

Variegated Fairy-wren

Rose Robin

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

Australasian Grebe

There was a Boobook Owl roosting in a hollow.

But its sleep was disturbed by a pair of Rainbow Lorikeets

The Boobook Owl woke up –

And then a Grey Butcherbird started calling nearby.

The Boobook didn’t look too happy.

Here is a Noisy Miner and a Grey Butcherbird

Crimson Rosella

Water Dragon

Golden Whistler

And a last look at the Boobook Owl
