Cooks River Birds – 29 Sep 2025

I did a short walk from Canterbury Road down the Cooks River to Wardell Road, and along the way I photographed some of the birds I saw. I was looking for nesting Tawny Frogmouths, and I ended up only seeing one nesting pair out of four possible pairs.

Here are some photos –

Crested Pigeon

Masked Lapwing

Dusky Moorhen

This is a rather old looking Sulphur-crested Cockatoo

Maned Ducks

A bit downstream for the Boat Harbour, I could hear birds going crazy high in a tree. A Pair of Channel Bill Cuckoos were causing mayhem.

Willie Wagtail

And a pair of Tawny Frogmouth’s nesting near the Cricket Nets near Ewen Park.

  1. Peter Sipek says:

The white cockatoo is suffering Psittacine beak and feather disease (PBFD) a highly contagious, viral disease caused by the beak and feather disease virus (BFDV), a type of circovirus.
