I was keen to get out again after the early morning Greenway bird survey, so In the afternoon I caught a bus down Canterbury Road to the the Cooks River, then set off downstream with my camera.

A reader to this blog had recently left a comment saying that there were a family of Tawny Frogmouths at the Leslie Muir Reserve in Close St, Canterbury. This is a place where I have seen Tawny Frogmouths before.
I soon spotted two adult Tawny Frogmouths perched together –

I then looked around for more. I spotted this Grey Butcherbird –

I had been looking for possible a pair of juvenile Tawny Frogmouths, but I eventually spotted a nest. In the nest was an adult and I could easily see one chick.

But looking carefully at the photo, I think there are two chicsk. One sitting up on the left, and the other closer on the right, in the above photo.
Here is another view of the nest –

I continued down the Boat Harbour, where I did a Birdlife Australia Bird Survey.
Great Cormorant

Pelican

Noisy Miner

There are often Tawny Frogmouths nesting at the Boat Harbour but I could not spot any.
Dusky Moorhen chick –

At the Ford Steer busch are site, I could hear a Superb Fairy-wren, so waited to see if it would appear.

I looked for nesting Tawny Frogmouths at Ewen Park, but had no luck.
So I continued to the Golf Course and near the cricket nets I spotted four Tawny Frogmouths. Two adults and their two chicks. Previously I had seen a nest hear with one chick visible.
Here is an adult with a chick –

Not good for photography when they are facing the opposite directions.
Below was a most delightful chick –

And nearby, the second parent –
