I enjoyed a very nice day spent out on Malabar Headland with Valerie, Sue and later Alana.
Early on, we spotted a Nankeen Kestrel perched on top of the solar panel that powers the surveillance camera near the park entrance.
Further out, near Boora Point. we got a fleeting view of a Peregrine Falcon as it flew past.
But the Falcon circled around and came back our way.
Then we had a long period of waiting for the Peregrine Falcon to appear again.
Humpback Whales
We spotted this bird – probably a type of Petrel –
Then we went for a wildflower walk.
Philotheca sp.
Dampiera stricta
Beard Orchid – Calochilus sp.
Sun Orchids – Thelymitra sp.
Walking back, we spotted a Nankeen Kestrel hovering over Boora Point.
Then another Peregrine Falcon appearance.
The Falcon had some prey.
Some nice flying.
Then we saw the female perched on a nearby ledge.
Danger zone! The Nankeen Kestrel cruised past, not far above the Peregrine Falcon.
The Peregrine Falcon took off a fair while later.
It landed along the cliffs.
Then moved very close to us.
It was on a sandy ledge, and it then had a sand bath. This is when the bird rids itself of lice and other parasites.
Then time to leave –
Then the other Peregrine Falcon appeared with the prey.
Below was a passing Dolphin –
And the female was back on her favourite ledge –
As we departed, we spotted another passing Humpback Whale –
