Greenway Walk – 30 October 2026

Sue had never visited The Greenway, so we took the opportunity of the Metro opening day to break our journey at Dulwich Hill and walked down the Greenway to Hawthorne and catch the light rail back. This worked out very well.

Along the way, we were fortunate to be able to obverse ten Tawny Frogmouths.

Starting out – near Dulwich Hill Light Rail –

Some artwork along the way –

Near Arlington, we spotted a young Grey Butcherbird –

And three Tawny Frogmouths –

We stopped off at Cafe Calibre, at Arlington for a coffee.

Stinkhorns –

MorÄ™ Tawny Frogmouths at the Pigott St Bushcare Site. A parent and two chicks.

More art –

And we deviated to another Tawny Frogmouth nest. A parent and two chicks –

It was close to Halloween.

The historic Whipple Truss at the western railway line.

Here you can see the current railway bridge and the older Whipple Truss –

And in Gadigal Reserve is another nesting Tawny Frogmouth –

And this is the original railway bridge – a sandstone viaduct. Poor quality sandstone was used, which led to the replacement with the Whipple Truss.

More artworks in Gadigal Reserve –

Brush Turkey

At Marion Street – the tide was very high.

White Faced Heron nestlings.
