Deep Pass – Camping and Canyoning – 19-20 December 2016

Martin had his brother and family visiting from Sweden, and had planned two days camping at Deep Pass Clearing in Wollemi National Park. His parents and wife Steffy joined him, and I tagged along with John, Chuin Nee and their two sons. It was a very pleasant two days spent at a delightful place in the bush.

Deep Pass Clearing

We walked the 800 m  from the carpark to the campsite, and had plenty of room to find a shady campsite in the large clearing.

Later in the afternoon, many of the party went up the nearby Deep Pass Canyon, which is in the headwaters of Nayook Creek.

During the evening, we noticed a nice healthy looking wombat grazing on the Lomandra around the clearing.

Before retiring for the night. I spent some time taking photos of the very clear night sky.

On the second day, we spent some time exploring around Deep Pass – looking at the Aboriginal art in a nearby overhang and then clambering through some narrow cracks in the cliffs on the side of the creek.

Then, after lunch and lazy afternoon, we walked back to the carpark and headed home.

More photos are online on my website here.

    Hey David,
Lovely photos, I camped Deep Pass over the weekend.
Do you know of any hikes that pass through Deep Pass campground? Some that may go further through the Deep Pass valley or along Nayook or the nearby Dingo Creek?
    Cheers

Yes – there are lots of walks you can do – but most of them are off track – and you need to be able to navigate and travel through scrub OK. The track to The River Caves Canyon is fairly straightforward.

    Awesome, thanks so much!
