Stacey was keen on a canyon trip and had suggested the Grand Canyon at Blackheath. I like this canyon – it is quite spectacular and not too hard to get to, but I had so far visited it three times already during the season. But if I went again, I thought, then this time I could shoot some video in the canyon. This time in the party were Stacey, Albert, Vesa, Kirrily and myself.
It was also an excellent day for canyon – hot, but not too hot for the walk out. After a morning tea stop at Blackheath, we arrived at the carpark on Evans Lookout Road and were soon heading down to the canyon.
A lot of people where out and about – but they all seemed to be bushwalking rather than canyoning. We later met a large party coming up the canyon from below – that was the only other party we saw in the canyon.
We completed the abseil and had a nice trip through the canyon. Albert set up his camera and tripod and concentrated on getting still photographs. I took a few stills – most of them hand held and also shot some video. I was grateful to the rest of the party for being prepared to wait while I went ahead and then unpacked the camera before they came past.
Here is my completed video (best watched at full screen size on Youtube) –
After completing the canyon, we walked back to the car via Evans Lookout. More photos are online here on my website.
