Lawson Waterfall Walk – 3 March 2013

It had been a few years since I had visited the waterfalls of North Lawson. I had been there when I was very young and more recently on, of all things, a mountain bike trip.

This time, it was a wet day, a good day to wander around photographing waterfalls.

So I headed out along the Empire Pass track – down to Empire Head and then along to my first waterfall – Fairy Falls. With the recent rain – the waterfall was quite spectacular and also very pretty.

I then followed a very good track down in Dantes Glen – this allowed me to visit Dantes Falls and the close St Michaels Falls.

I then continued down the Glen – and tried to get some photographs of the nice gorge. But the track follows along a high level ledge – a fair way above the creek. When it did drop to creek level, the track crosses the creek. The high water prevented me from crossing – so I walked back a short distance and then up a track that led back to Fairy Falls. I then walked back to the streets of North Lawson and back to the town.

Next would be the waterfalls of South Lawson, but not before calling into the excellent Lawson Cake Shop to pick up a snack.

I cant recall ever having seen these waterfalls before. I walked a kilometer or so down Honour Avenue and then followed a good track down to Adelina Falls. The falls lay in a nice grotto and were impressive. Junction Falls which were not far down the valley were even more impressive. There are two waterfalls here – at the junction of two creeks. More photo opportunities.

Then I continued along the track to Federal Falls, and my last waterfall – Cataract Falls.

My walk finished by following along a fire trail back to the start near Adelina Falls and then walk back to the station.

Another nice day out. More photographs can be found on my website – North Lawson and South Lawson.
