Birds at Tempe – 28 May 2019

It had been a while since I had visited Tempe Wetlands. Looking back through my photos from the same period last year, I had photographed a lot of honeyeaters there. So I made another visit. Things, however were fairly quiet. Perhaps this is due to not that much food (blossoms) being available.

I ddi see a few New Holland Honeyeaters.

After visiting the Wetlands, went for a walk around Tempe Reserve, and it too was quiet.

I then walked along the side of the Alexandria Canal, along the water pipeline. At the landing lights, I spotted a Black-shouldered Kite perched on a lamp.

It was being harassed by a Noisy Miner. Photography was difficult – to get close meant I would have had to shoot through a wire fence, and that was no good.

The bird eventually took off, and didn’t fly very high, so again, only distant photos.

Walking through the wastelands and along the track near the container terminal, I spotted a raptor, but it kept flying away, so I failed to photograph it. It was perhaps a Goshawk. All I damaged to photograph were some Red-browed Finches –
