Birds in Ku-Ring-Gai National Park and the Northern Beaches – 23 July 2019

This was a day of bird photography at several venues. I started by catching a train to Gordon and then a bus to Ingleside. From there, I walked out along the Chiltern Trail. There I main photographed honeyeaters. In the early afternoon, I caught a bus down to Mona Vale and then another to Warriwood where I photographed some larger birds including raptors.

The Chiltern Trail was noisy with bird calls, but many of the birds were shy, and hard to photograph. Here are some of the birds I saw.

Scarlet Honeyeater

Little Wattlebird

Yellow-faced Honeyeater

Fuscous Honeyeater

New Holland Honeyeater

White-cheeked Honeyeater

Eastern Spinebill

Spotted Pardalote

Eastern Yellow Robin

Grey Shrike-thrush

Silvereyes

Variagated Fairy-wren

I then made my way down to Warriewood. I made a visit to Mullet Creek to see what birds were out. I spotted a Great Egret, an Australian Darter and a Striated Heron.

Some small Superb Fairy-wrens were around.

Further down a White-faced Heron caught a nice fish.

I then crossed Pittwater Road and walked along the side of Narrabeen Lagoon. A few Pelicans and Cormorants were swimming.

In the sporting field nearby, I saw a Nankeen Kestrel sitting on one of the posts. I walked closer to get some photos.

It flew around  bit, giving me the chance to get some nice photos of it taking off and in flight.

I then walked to another nearby sporting field to where a pair of Ospreys have their nest. I managed to get some nice photos of one of the Ospreys. I think the second one is sitting on eggs in the nest.
