Birds at Barton Park – 27 July 2019

During the afternoon of 27 July, I went to Barton Park to see what birds were out. On my previous visits I had seen raptors out hunting in the afternoon. I was hoping to see some this visit.

Brown Honeyeater

When I arrived, I went to the Landing Lights Wetland. I did see quite a few Black-winged Stilts and various ducks. I also saw a Black-fronted Dotterel, but it flew off before I could get a photo. I did manage to photograph a nice White-faced Heron.

I also looked up to the higher level, and I did see a hovering Black-shouldered Kite. So I headed up and managed to get some photos of it before it flew away.

I then concentrated on getting some photos of some of the smaller birds. There were quite a few Red-browed Finches about.

Amongst them were a few Nutmeg Mannikins.

Also a few Fairy Martins were flying around very fast.

They were joined by some Welcome Swallows.

Nearby in the Lantana were some honeyeaters. There were some new Holland Honeyeaters –

And some Brown Honeyeaters –

Some of the Brown Honeyeaters were flying around rapidly after insects –

There were also some Superb Fairy-wrens around –

I then went back down to the Landing Lights Wetland. I was able to photograph a Spoonbill, a White-faced Heron, a Black-fronted Dotterel,  a Black-winged Stilt and a passing Pelican.
