This was another pleasant day photographing birds at Nurragingy Reserve at Doonside. Like the previous visit, I had no luck spotting any of the Azure Kingfishers this time. But there were plenty of other nice birds to see.
The best birds of the visit were found along the perimeter fire trail – close to the creek. I found it best to wait quietly and see what turned up. If there were no birds around, then I would move along short way and try waiting again. And multiple trips were beneficial.
One bird I saw this visit was a Yellow Thornbill. Here are some photos –
I also saw a Yellow-rumped Thornbill –
And I saw a few Eastern Spinebills –
And some Yellow-faced Honeyeaters –
Some of the other small birds in the forest –
White-browed Scrubwren
Superb Fairywren
Brown Thornbill
Red Wattlebird
Golden Whistler
Grey Fantail
Back at the main ponds there were plenty of birds. Here is a Little Pied Cormorant –
A Raven was being harassed by some Noisy Miners –
I also spent some time photographing the Welcome Swallows flying over the surface of one of the ponds.
Here is a sequence where one dives into the water and emerges –
Lastly, an Australian Grebe.
This one has a small crustacean –
