Wattamolla to Marley Walk – 20 August 2019

Another walk in Royal National Park. Another chance to see wildflowers, birds and great scenery. Digi Dave and myself set out from Wattamolla carpark along the Coastal Track.

A windy day was forecast, but most of the time we enjoyed reasonably sheltered conditions as the wind was from the west. New the carpark, at the creek is a good place to spot birds. I saw an Eastern Spinebill and several New Holland Honeyeaters as well as a Superb Fairywren.

Along the track there were lots of good wildflowers.

And more birds. A Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo, a Yellow-faced Honeyeater and a Little Wattlebird –

When we reached the cliffs, I scanned along them for Peregrine Falcons. Last year, on a walk in this area, we had spotted a nesting pair. (See another trip here) Where they nesting here again? Yes. I soon spotted one sitting on eggs. But it was a long way along the cliffs. The same spot it had last year. I could not see the second Falcon. But later when I looked at my photos, I could see it was perched nearby.

This is also the spot where the rocks are marked by small pecked out patterns. I think this is likely to be Aboriginal Art.

The views here are also amazing. Further along a short way is a section of beautiful sand sculpted sandstone. This is one of my favourite parts of Royal National Park.

We soon arrived at Little Marley, and stopped for lunch at a sheltered spot.

We then slowly made our way back the way we had come.

When we arrived at the Peregrine Falcon nesting area, I could see the one on the eggs had turned around. The other Falcon was closer, but still a fair way off.

Then back through the heath to Wattamolla. More beautiful flowers and birds. A nice day out.
