North Lawson Walk – 17 November 2019

This was a short, but very pleasant walk around part of the Waterfall Circuit on the north side of Lawson. In the part was Wendy, Don, Elata, Pete and Steph.

We first walked down to Dantes Glen and looked at the waterfall – it was hardly flowing. But the location was nice and cool in a deep ravine.

From there it was not far down to St Michaels Falls. Again a very low flow. There quite a few small birds around.

Our plan was to continue  downstream, but not to go as far as Lucys Glen and Frederica Falls. We intended to climb straight up to Empire Pass lookout. This tune out to be  reasonably easy. Near the top we came across an occupation cave.

We then met up with the track at the lookout, and started walking back to Fairy Falls. On the way, Don spotted a nice Cymbidium suave orchid –

We also saw a nice White-throated Treecreeper –

And some bugs –

Fairy Falls, which are above St Michaels Falls, we soon reached but offered no nice shady spot for lunch, so we continued on to the park at the carpark and found some shade there. Thanks to Pete for providing a nice picnic lunch.

After lunch, we spotted a Sacred Kingfisher nearby.
