Malabar Headland – 6 December 2019

Another fairly quiet day out on the headland. My previous trip had been quiet, but the one just before that had been outstanding. I think it may be now late in the season for the juvenile Peregrine Falcons to be making much of an appearance. This trip I saw one of the juvenile Falcons and one adult. Perhaps the two other juvenile Peregrine Falcons have left the area? Or perhaps the conditions were not very good for them to be flying?

Early on my visit, I spotted a juvenile Peregrine Falcon flying near Boora Point. It flew past, and I did not see it again.

An adult Peregrine Falcon tuned up and landed near the nesting site around 11 am.

It moved to another ledge a bit later on. I got some photos and then waited to see if it would take-off. It was non ledge that I had got good take-off photos in the past.

I had to wait a fair while – it was perched for about 50 minutes. And then gave signs it was about to fly. I was ready with my camera, but as it happened , it took off away from me.

And some of the other birds –

Superb Fairy-wren

New Holland Honeyeater

Great Cormorants

Shearwater ?

And a Copper Skink.

Below, I spotted two frogmen. You can also see a lot of leaves in the water – fallout from the bushfires.
