With a lot of national parks close to Sydney closed due to bushfires there were not a lot of options left for a day in the bush. One place I had never walked was the coast near La Perouse. I was joined on the walk by Chuin Nee and little Jasper.
The walk starts off through some attractive forest as it makes it way to Henry Head. This headland has some interesting old fortifications – some slowly being smothered by scrub.
There are also great views of Botany Bay and Kurnell, which looks very close.
Then you travel through coastal heath and down onto some rock platforms before you have to walk through a short section of golf course to reach Cape Banks. The cape is almost an island. The final few steps onto the cape are via a bridge.
And then more great rock platforms, the crash of waves and an inspection of the Minmi wreck of 1937.
We had lunch in a nice shady cave before returning the same way.
A nice day in the bush and away from the bushfires. More photos are on my website here.
