Birds and Whales at Bundeena – 19 June 2020

I joined Digi Dave for a photo-walk day at Bundeena. We visited Bonnie Vale and then The Balconies at the sea cliffs. Both venues are in Royal National Park.

Northern Giant-Petrel

At Bonnie Vale, we first visited the wetlands. We saw a number of Ibis and Spoonbills. We then walked out along the track towards the outlet of the Cabbage Tree Basin. There we saw a number of birds. Here is a Little Pied Cormorant –

A Little Egret watches a Spoonbill searching for food, and hoping it stirs up something easy that it can grab.

This Great Egret was content sitting in a Mangrove.

A Little Pied Cormorant flies past –

Followed by a Pied Cormorant –

We then headed back to Bonnie Vale for lunch, then spent the afternoon out on The Balconies. On the way, we saw lots of New Holland Honeyeaters –

We then found a nice place to sit and wait for whales to come past. We didn’t have to wait long.

And a Gannet flew past –

More Humpback Whales –

I photographed another passing bird. It was one I was unfamiliar with. It turned out to be a Northern Giant-Petrel.

The next pod of whales –

And as we walked back, more New Holland Honeyeaters –

And some Rainbow Lorikeets –
