Lane Cove Valley Fungi and Orchids – 12 July 2020

After a bit of hesitation about where to go for a walk, I decided to catch a train to Thornleigh, then walk down to the Lane Cove River and follow it as far as Browns Waterhole, then exit via Terrys Creek.

I thought a fair bit of fungi should be out, an indeed I did find a lot as soon as I hit the river at the bottom of Lorna Pass. But below that the fungi was patchy, and Terrys Creek was relatively poor. However, there was an abundance of orchids all along the Lane Cove River.

Here is some of the fungi I found at the bottom of Lorna Pass. It is Hydnum repandum, Gliophorus graminicolor , Hygrocybe anomola var. anomla and Clavulinopsis corallinorosacea

Here are some of the many orchids along the river –

Pterostylis nudans

Acianthus fornicatum

Pterostylis baptisii

Just downstream of the junction with Devines Creek, I found a large patch of Gliophorus graminicolor just off the fire road.

There was a fair bit of Austropaxillus muelleri out –

And now for some of the fungi out along Terrys Creek –

One waxcap, Hygrocybe leucogloea

Cortinarius rotundisporus

Ramariopsis simplex

Ramariopsis crocea

Note – this one is the same as the one I photographed back on 26 June (see banner photo for that post). It does not seem to have changed much since then.

Clavulina christata

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Perhaps Clavaria aff. falcata

Clavulinopsis amoena
