Kings Tableland Weekend 7-10 February 2014

Don, with his daughter Elata were celebrating birthdays at a party at Ingar – a nice picnic and camping area in Blue Mountains National Park that is accessed via a fire trail from the Kings Tableland Road out from Wentworth Falls.

I headed up the mountain early, on the Friday afternoon with Digi Dave and we headed out to Sublime Point at Leura for some sunset photography. We were not the only ones at the lookout – quite a few others had headed out there, and quite a few had cameras.

After the sunset, we camped near the barrier on Narrow Neck at Katoomba. I got up early, and walked out for five minutes or so to a lookout that overlooks the Jamison Valley. Sunrise was pleasant but not spectacular.

Our next objective was to meet up with friends – Doug and Lizzie and their family and friends for a walk out to Lion Head on Kings Tableland. We walked out through heath along a newly cut track and had lunch at a great vantage point. I later went out to the last part of the head, passing a large cairn (and logbook) on the way. This marks the top of a pass down to Kedumba Valley.

We then walked back and drove out to Ingar to meet Don and the people at the party. We had a very pleasant time at Ingar. Swimming in the large dam, socialising, eating and drinking and exploring the area.

Sunday was a hot day – and we spent a lot of the time enjoying swims in the dam. The kids enjoyed the rope swing.

In the late afternoon, most people had headed off home. Digi Dave and myself headed back to the Lion Head track for s sunset photo-pfaff session. About ten minutes out along the track, just after crossing a rocky knoll – you pass across a small rocky platform. Here there are great views and some very nice rock formations.

We camp that night near the Kings Tableland Rd. This allowed us more photography at dawn – but the sunrise with a bit of a washout – with very dull conditions.

More photographs can be seen on my website – Sublime Point and Narrow Neck, Lions Head Walk and Ingar and Lions Head sunset.

    Hi Dave,
Just wondering roughly how far out Kings Tableland road is the Lions Head walk?
