Royal Botanic Gardens Visit – 16 February 2021

I had just visited the Australian Museum and had some spare time in the afternoon, so I walked into the nearby Royal Botanic Gardens for a look. There are plenty of photographic subjects in these gardens, and on my last visit, I had not been able to spot the Powerful Owls. This time I found one early on.

As soon as I walked under the tree it was roosting in, to opened its eyes and observed me.

The same thing happened when I had another look at it an hour or so later –

Last visit, I had photographed some butterflies. There seemed to be less of them this time. Here is a Skipper –

Down at the ponds, a Little Black Cormorant was collecting nesting material –

It would fly to its nest site, then return for more.

This Pied Cormorant was hunting for fish –

Amazing! Which botanic gardens entrance did you spot the owl?

The Powerful Owl is often roosting in a tree not too far away from the Cafe – Bookshop area. Its location varies from day to day and it can be very hard to find. I always ask at the volunteer counter if they know the current location. But at this time of the year – it may have moved closer to a nesting hollow.

Thank you!!! We have been trying to look for it during the day but we usually can only hear it at night inside the gardens at night!
