Birds along the Cooks River and at Barton Park – 21 April 2021

I went for an afternoon bike ride along the Cooks River to Tempe, and then out to Barton Park – taking my camera to see what birds were out.

My first stop was the Boat Harbour. I soon spotted the resident Tawny Frogmouths

The pair were very close to each other, but hard to photograph through the foliage.

I did not see too much at the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands, so I then cycled down the river to Gough Whitlam Park. Mark, from the Tempe Birdos, had told me about a Nankeen Night Heron that has been roosting there recently. I soon found it – but again, it was difficult to photograph through the foliage.

I then went to Landing Lights Wetland at Barton Park. There were the usual Teals and Pacific Black Ducks, two White-faced Heron, a single Spoonbill and a few Ibis. Overhead were a few Swallows.

I then went to the higher level. I did see quite a few Superb fairy-wrens and a single New Holland Honeyeater. I could hear other birds but they did not make themselves visible.
