Another day, another bird survey. This time with the Inner West Environment Group for their monthly survey along the Greenway between Taverners Hill and Hawthorne.
The meeting place is the platform at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station and after looking around for birds from the platform we descended to the path and walked towards Marion Street and then Hawthorne.
I was a fine but cold day, and there were not that many birds at the light rail station. Here is a Laughing Kookaburra –
We saw a number of New Holland Honeyeaters but only one stayed on a perch for a while.
Here is an Australian White Ibis foraging in the canal.
And some Little Black Cormorants were also fishing.
Here is a Grey Fantail –
At Marion Street, from the bridge, we could see the resident Rock Dove in a pipe.
And a Noisy Miner, one of many!
Further along the canal was saw some Magpie Larks. Here is one –
Some Magpies –
And the bees nest that is on a nesting box.
We finished with morning tea at the cafe in the dog area. After that I walked back slowly to Taverners Hill photographing a few more birds. Here is a Great Cormorant –
I watched it for a while, and it did catch two small fish. But it ate them so quickly I didn’t have chance to photograph them being eaten. It then flapped its wings a bit to shake off water and then took off – taking a very long run to get airborne.
Watching was a Little Pied Cormorant –
This Rainbow Lorikeet was enjoying both the nectar and the Sun.
And I saw a pair of White-faced Herons fly up the canal. Here is one of them at the Marion Street Bridge –
