Cooks River Bike Ride – 24 Sep 2021

Day 90 of lockdown. I was good to be able to catch up with Digi Dave for a bike ride along the Cooks River Cycleway. We checked out a few Nature sites along the way. Then had stop-off at Gough Whitlam Park for lunch before riding back.

Here are some photos –

This is a Murray River Short-neck Turtle (Thanks Ken Griffiths for the id). It was at the Cup and Saucer Creek Wetlands.

Below are some Little Black Cormorants at the Boat Harbour.

At the Boat Harbour we spotted one of the Tawny Frogmouths.

And a Grey Butcherbird.

Nearby, we looked along the Cooks River for nests. We found two Magpie Lark nests. The first was empty.

The second one was crammed full with two chicks.

Here is a Little Pied Cormorant

At Gough Whitlam Park, we located the Striated Heron nest. All seems OK.

I cycled on to Cahill Park and looked downstream for the Osprey. I could see it perched a long way off at the airport.

It was a very pleasant day out, and it was good to catch up with Digi Dave for some exercise on our bikes.

  1. jg says:

Boat Harbour Tawnies, Since at least Monday 27.9 and maybe Sunday, there is a bird on the nest full time, so looks like there is a clutch. The other is also hanging not far. Good news.
