Day 94 of lockdown. After the great session of bird photography at Barton Park, the day before, I decided to return for some more. But would the same birds be around?
The previous day, I had good encounters with two raptors – an Osprey and a Grey Goshawk. On this visit I did see both of these birds and more. Again, I travelled there by bike.
First at the Landing Lights Wetland. Some of the Pied Stilts –
Then the Grey Goshawk came past.
Back at the wetlands – An Australian Reed Warbler –
And a Yellow-rumped Thornbill –
Back at the higher level, the Tawny Grassbird was still around and still calling.
I was photographing some more Yellow-rumped Thornbills when a Brown Goshawk flew past. I missed it and was alerted to its presence by another bird photographer.
I did manage to photograph a Laughing Kookaburra as it flew past.
Back down at the wetlands, a White-faced Heron –
And here is an Australian White Ibis –
I then went out to the Cooks River to see if I could spot the Osprey. On the way I saw a Fan-tailed Cuckoo –
It was perched in a locked off area, so I could not get a better photo.
At the river, I did see the Osprey, perched near the airport, a long way off.
I could see it being harassed by a Magpie (and other birds).
It then took off and flew past.
I didn’t see it again.
Back up at the higher area, near the old Grandstand, I saw a flock of Red-browed Finches –
Looking down on the wetlands, I saw a Brown Goshawk.
It was joined by a second Brown Goshawk. They flew around together for a while.
It was good to see the Goshawks.
A few last photos. Another Laughing Kookaburra fly past.
And a pair of Chestnut Teals –
