Cooks River Birds – 26 November 2024

It was the first a series of very hot days, but I was keen to venture outdoors, so I did short local walk along the Cooks River between Wardell Road and Canterbury Road.

I first went to the cricket nets and looked for the Tawny Frogmouths. I only found the one on a nest –

Close, was a Juvenile Grey Butcherbird being fed by a parent.

In Ewen Park, I spotted an Olive-backed Oriole on the ground. Unusual. It may have been anting.

It then flew into nearby tree.

A Brown Goshawk was circling above.

The Tawny Frogmouth was sitting on its nest. The same as I have seen it now for couple of months. Are the eggs no good? Perhaps. But the bird on the nest did look a bit restless, and the second parent was perched nearby. So perhaps there is a chick?

I could not spot the Tawny Frogmouth family at the Boat Harbour.

Here is another Grey Butcherbird at the Close St Reserve –
