Sydney Park Visit – 29 September 2021

Day 95 of lockdown. I decided to make another visit to Sydney Park to see how the birds were going.

I did see a lot of birds. I started off with the Buff-banded Rail.

And here is a Noisy Miner

The Tawny Frogmouth was perched in a spot where I had seen it before.

In the main pond the Dusky Moorhen chicks seemed to be doing OK.

A Pacific Black Duck flew past –

Here is one of the Australian Reed-warblers

And this Magpie Lark was collecting nesting material.

There were some new Eurasian Coot chicks –

A one of the Willie Wagtails

It seems the Willie Wagtails have made a new nest near the old Magpie Lark nest on the island.

The Black Swan cygnets are getting bigger, and blacker.

On the island, the Magpie Lark chicks have now fledged.

Here is a Little Pied Cormorant

And I think I cold only spot one Australasian Grebe

And the Coots were stabling with the Moorhens –

Back to the Island Pond. Here are some turtles.

My friend Ken Griffiths, a reptile expert, has identified the turtles above as (probably) a Saw-shelled Turtle on the left and a Murray Short-neck Turtle on the right. These turtles are native to Australia (but not to Sydney).

And to finish, a few flowers –
