I was pleased to be able to take part in the now resumed Bird Survey along the Cooks River with the Mudlarks. It was good to catch up with members of the group again. This month the survey was conducted in the downstream direction from the Lang Street Bridge to the footbridge to the gold course club house, and then back upstream on the other side of the river. We were also bale to look at the newly reopened Dibble Street Wetland.
The day was a bit wet and cold. We met at the Lang Street Bridge at 7 am – and the pool light made photography challenging.
Here are some of the birds we saw –
Little Corellas
Royal Spoonbill
Little Pied Cormorant
Red Wattlebird
Dusky Moorhen
This was observed in the Dibble Street Wetland.
In the golf course, on the west side of Wardell Road, we saw a huge flock of Little Corellas takes to the air.
And it looks like this Sulphur-crested Cockatoo may be feeding young in a nest hollow.
And a Australian Magpie –
As usual, the group finished with morning eta in Ewan Park.
After the survey, I had planned an excursion with Valerie. On the way to her house, we spotted the Younger Avenue Tawny Frogmouth. It was a little downstream of its former location. Perhaps its mate has a nest nearby?
We also spotted a new Willie Wagtail nest –
