This was another day at Long Reef photographing the raptors.
As usual, the Ospreys were present. But first a White Faced Heron hunting on the rock platform –
It had caught a crab, but could not swallow it straight away.
Meanwhile an Osprey flew past –
The White Faced Heron resumed its hunting –
Another Osprey flew past –
A Pied Cormorant flew past –
And this Little Pied Cormorant had caught small fish –
Another Osprey fly past –
Then a White Bellied Sea Eagle appeared with its Magpie escort –
Lately, the Sea Eagles have been stealing fish from the Ospreys. But this time, No Osprey appeared to have any fish.
This Osprey flew a short way out to sea and back again. It had nesting material with it. Perhaps this was a sign that it was looking for a mate?
The White Bellied Sea Eagle was still around –
It must have then left the area, for the Ospreys then started hunting for fish.
Most of their dives were unsuccessful.
This one pulled out of its dive –
Finally one had a fish!
Another Osprey hunting for fish –
But then an Osprey was not too far from the shore, struggling in the water –
It was trying to land a rather large fish.
It then started to eat the fish –
Meanwhile, other Ospreys were still hunting –
There had been a fair bit of Osprey action on my visit, but a lot of their dives had been unsuccessful and all of them had been a fair way off.
