Birds at Barton Park – 28 July 2026

I thought it about time to visit Barton Park and Landing Lights Wetland again to see what the birds were like there.

I arrived about lunchtime and st opted for some food first in Riverine Park, then as I was about to walk over to Landing Lights Wetland, I spotted a high flying White Bellied Sea Eagle.

Now at Landing Lights Wetland. A Royal Spoonbill was foraging –

And this White Faced Heron was also looking for food –

It had caught a small worm –

The Royal Spoonbill promenading –

There were about ten Pied Stilts in the main pond –

I think this is a Brown Honeyeater –

I then ventured into the mangroves. I cold hear quite a few birds.

I then heard a commotion (Noisy Miner alarm calls) near the Wetlands and came out of the mangroves to see a Brown Goshawk –

I then made my way to the end of the Spring Street Canal and spotted a Little Heron on the bank.

It then started hunting –

It’s amazing to watch these birds stretch their necks as they lunge for a fish.

Before swallowing a fish, they sort of centrifuge it –

Then down it goes –

Some more neck stretching –

And it moves to another spot to resume fishing –

I then started to make my way back to Landing Lights Wetland. Here is a New Holland Honeyeater I saw along the way –

Back at the Wetlands. Pied Stilt –

In the far distance, above the sporting fields, I spotted a hunting Nankeen Kestrel –

But then, all of sudden, it flew off and was replaced by a Black Shouldered Kite –

The White Faced Heron seemed to be in a panic –

The Black Shouldered Kite then seemed to fly off towards to newly restated sporting fields near the Golf Firing Range, so I walked over and spotted it perched on one of the lights –
