Curra Moors Walk – 18 October 2021

One of the places I was keen to visit after the end of the lockdown was Royal National Park. Digi Dave was keen on an outing and I suggested the Curra Moors.

We met at Sutherland and were soon at the Curra Moors carpark. The carpark was pretty full, but we did not see that many people during the day – perhaps the others were all walking around the loop the same way we did?

I was hoping for Waratahs and lots of Orchids. But, it seems we were too late for the Waratahs and the only orchids we saw were old fertilised ones. But there were plenty of other nice wild flowers in bloom. Here are some –

I was also looking our for birds. A lot were calling out, but not that many were visible. Here are some  that I saw –

New Holland Honeyeater

Superb Fairy-wren

It was quite warm when we arrived at the Coastal Track near Eagle Rock. So we headed for one of the caves to get to of the Sun while we had lunch.

Lots of Flannel Flowers were out along the Coastal Track.

We followed the Coastal Track to near the descent to Garie, then followed the fire trail back to the Curra Moors Track. It was a pleasant day out.

  1. Molly says:

Heaps of waratahs out near Heathcote, especially if you take the fireroads there that lead to Bottle Forest (to go to Olympic Pool, western side of the Parklands track). I saw well over 100 in perfect condition a week ago. But also lots of signs threatening pickers, which sounded ominous.
