I spent a nice afternoon out at Sydney Olympic Park. I first visited the Waterbird Refuge in Bicentennial Park and then went to Wentworth Common and the Brickpit Ring and then went back the same way.
I saw a lot of nice birds. Here are some –
Superb Fairy-wrens
Striated Heron
Pied Stilts
There were a lot of Pied Stilt chicks and juveniles. This one is trying out its developing wings –
Australian Shelducks
This is the first time I have seen Shelducks at the park for a few years.
Red-necked Avocet
Black-fronted Dotterels
Welcome Swallows
At the Shipwreck Lookout I saw a pair of juvenile White-faced Herons. Here is one –
I carefully inspected the ponds at Wentworth Common. Here is a Dusky Moorhen chick –
And an Australasian Grebe –
Here is a juvenile Grey Butcherbird –
And this Turtle is laying some eggs –
On my way out, I photographed this Yellow Thornbill near the mangroves.
