Another short afternoon visit to Sydney Park. It was a wet gloomy day, and I hoped to get a gap between showers.
During my visit, I spent a fair bit of time looking to see if I could spot any of the Tawny Frogmouths that I had see earlier nesting. I failed to find any. But looking up, I did spot a Channel-billed Cuckoo trying to look inconspicuous.
It was soon encouraged to have by some Noisy Miners.
At the ponds, I photographed this Australian Reed-Warbler –
And I could see chicks in this Magpie Lark nest –
And this little Eurasian Coot chick is being fed.
Here is a Blue-tongued Skink –
I had a good time watching a Buff-banded Rail having a bath –
When it finished it raced off into the reeds. Meanwhile the Channel-billed Cuckoo was on the move too –
Here is a Welcome Swallow –
And a Fairy Martin –
Lurking i the reeds was this Australian Swamphen chick –
A parent was nearby.
Some more chicks – Dusky Moorhens –
On my previous visit, I had photographed a Little Pied Cormorant on a nest. I had seen it this visit and thought it was abandoned. But, when I spotted a Little Pied Cormorant flying to it and landing nearby, saw I was wrong. Two chicks were waiting to be fed. I was in the wrong spot however to get good photos of the feeding.
I had another look at the spot I had earlier seen the Buff-banded Rail. It returned to forage briefly.
A flock of Galahs were on a tree on the island.
And before I left, I could see the Little Pied Cormorant chicks were settled back down.
