I was keen to have another look for fungi at Bola Creek. On the previous trip the fungi had been quite good, but due to high creek levels, the group had not been able to cross the creek on the track.
This time I travelled down with Valerie, and we spent a nice day wandering around Bola Creek on both sides of the creek. The creek was high and some of the stones used for the crossing had washed downstream, but that did not prevent us from crossing. I crossed with bare feet. We looked around carefully for fungi and slime moulds.
Valerie took this photo of me crossing the creek on the way back.
I thought conditions would be very good for fungal fruiting, but I was a bit disappointed. We found a fair bit of coral fungi out, but no waxcaps. Perhaps more time and colder conditions are needed?
One species I was keen to find was some Trumpet Fungi – Craterellus cornucopioides.
Sure enough, we found some growing in the same place that I had seen it on previous seasons.
Clavulinopsis amoena
Clavulinopsis fusiformis
Clavulinopsis sulcata
Ramariopsis simplex
Ramaria abietina
Ramariopsis sp.
Ramariopsis crocea
Mycena sp.
Hydnum repandum
Russula sp.
Pseudohydnum gelatinosum
Lasiosphaeria ovina
Perhaps Lactarius wirrabara
Dogs Vomit Slime Mould – Fuligo septica
And another slime mould –
While we were having lunch at the picnic table, an Eastern Yellow Robin came down for a look.
Thanks to Valerie for driving down and accompanying me on this visit. And we had great weather.
