Fungi in Sassafras Gully – 4 April 2022

It had been a while since I had visited Sassafras Gully at Springwood to check out the fungi. I was also on the lookout for birds.

The fungi turned out to be reasonable, but I had expected better. On this trip I entered via the track from Sassafras Gully Road, then walked down to the Lagoon, then continued down Glenbrook Creek and returned back to Springwood via Magdala Creek and Fairy Dell.

I found quite a few red waxcaps. Probably all Hygrocybe miniata.

The above photos also shows an lobe green Ascomycete on the log. Here is a closer view –

Cyptotrama asprata

Mycena sp.

Omphalotus nidiformis

Geoglossum sp.

Trichoglossum hirsutum

There were a few fair corals out.

Clavulinopsis amoena

Perhaps Clavulina sp.

Perhaps Ramariopsis sp.

Clavaria fragilis

Perhaps Ramaria pyrispora

I have seen this Polypore growing in the same location most seasons. It was growing on the sandy soil.

And here are some of the birds I saw along the track.

Rufous Fantail

Large-billed Scrubwren

Rufous Fantail

White-throated Treecreeper

White-browed Scrubwren

I am not sure what this bird is –
