Early in the morning I joined the Mudlarks, for their monthly bird survey along the Cooks River. This month we surveyed downstream from the Lang St Bridge to the footbridge that crosses to the Golf Clubhouse and then we head upstream on that bank. We found a good variety of birds.
At the Lang Street Bridge, we started the survey and recorded a large group of Welcome Swallows.
In Beaman Park, we spotted some Little Corellas.
And in the long grass, we saw a White-faced Heron.
It was hunting in a new wetland –
We heard a call and looked up, and eventually spotted an Olive-backed Oriole.
Then we heard a lot of alarm calls from many birds and looked up and spotted a Brown Goshawk.
And here is a Pied Currawong –
Crossing to the north bank, we spotted a Grey Butcherbird –
Then we deviate da bit from our normal route, to see if we could find a group of four Tawny Frogmouths that Simin, a member of the group had spotted on one of her river walks. We eventually spotted them. They were all perched in the one tree, but on different levels.
Nearby we saw a flock of Musk Lorikeets –
The Dibble Street Waterhole was fairly quiet. Here is a Dusky Moorhen –
Back in the Golf Course we saw a pair of Australasian Figbirds –
And there was also a pair of Willie Wagtails –
And back near the Lang St Bridge, we saw more Welcome Swallows.
As usual, we finished with morning tea.
Thanks for your beautiful photos!
