Greenway Bird Survey – 24 September 2022

I was able to take part in the early Saturday morning bird survey along the Waratah Mills loop on The Greenway. We saw a good range of birds.

The group met outside the Light Rail Station at 7:30 am and while we were there we saw a Brush Turkey

Here is one of the Red Wattlebirds that we saw –

And lots of New Holland Honeyeaters

And here is a Noisy Miner demonstrating that they too are honeyeaters –

Now for some non-native birds –

Red-whiskered Bulbuls

Sparrow

Common Myna

And then we heard the raucous sounds of  a Channel-billed Cuckoo. But two flew past –

Superb Fairy-wren

Rainbow Lorikeet

Superb Fairy-wren

White-browed Scrubwren

Red Wattlebird

New Holland Honeyeater

Red Wattlebird

The bird was hunting small insects, perhaps termites.

When it got a full beak, it would fly over to a nest and feed its young –

Little Wattlebird

As usual, we finished off with morning tea at a nearby cafe.
