Visit to Oatley Park – 23 February 2023

I joined Sue on a visit to Oatley Park. We sent an enjoyable day wandering around looking at the trees the flowers, the birds and some of the lizards.

Sue had a swim at Jewfish Bay, and while I was waiting, a pair of Sacred Kingfishers came by. One dived down in front of me and grabbed something from the water. It flew up into a tree, and then I spotted the second one.

We then walked around the headland on the track.

We spotted two distant Osprey on the Lugano side of the bay. Here is one –

And there were some birds –

Variegated Fairy-wren

Thornbill

We spotted some rather old Bonnet Orchids

We went to the shelter sheds at the play area for lunch sit was starting to rain. We watched this Noisy Miner with prey –

We then visited the lookouts. Here’s the view from Websters Lookout –

And then we walk down the hill to Lime Kiln Bay, crossed on the footbridge and started on the boardwalk through the mangroves.

Above us were a pair of Rufous Fantails

We later saw more Rufous Fantails further along the track.

And some more Variegated Fairy-wrens

Lobelia dentata

And to finish, some Water Dragons

One was on the footbridge and jumped into the water –

There was a lot of storm debris!

Thanks to Sue for great company on the day.
