Fungi at Wolli Creek – 27 April 2023

I joined Valerie and Sue for a short excursion to Wolli Creek Regional Park. We were looking for fungi. We started from Hartill-Law Avenue, and first walked along the Two Valleys Track upstream. We did not go too far – I wanted to see if some fungi had appeared at certain places along the track.

The first thing we found was this Slime Mould growing on the grass in the clearing near Bray Ave.

I have seen this same slime mould in this grass quite a few times.

We continued upstream. At one spot, we left the track and explored the forest floor. I spotted a small number of red waxcaps.

Hygrocybe sp.

We continued upstream and found a few more things out, but not a lot.

Inocybe sp.

Lactarius eucalypti

We then turned around and walked back. We had lunch at Girrahween Park. Looking around we spotted some more fungi –

Gyroporus mcnabbii

Omphalotus nidiformis

Hygrocybe astatogala

I didn’t realise what this was until I looked at the photo later at home.

Hygrocybe austropratensis

We spotted quite a few of these out in one location.

Russula sp.

Rickenella fibula

Clavulina tasmanica

Hypholoma sp.

Russula sp.

Geoglossum sp.

Russula sp. and Geoglossum sp.

Clavulina vinaceocervina

Bolete

Clavulina vinaceocervina

I had been hoping for better fungi, and we had to look carefully for what we found.
