A few days earlier, on our walk down Wolli Creek, we had noticed some Ghost Fungi – Omphalotus nidiformis in Girrahween Park. I thought it would be worth returning in the evening to see them glowing. They are a species that is bioluminescent.
It was a pleasant evening, so I jumped on a bus heading to Earlwood. On the way, I contacted Valerie and she decided to join me. We met at the park and also bumped into Andrea and two of her friends who were also photographing the mushrooms, and later Deb joined us.
One patch of the Ghost Fungi was brighter than the others. See the first photo.
This patch only had a very faint glow –
Here is another photo of the good patch –
And two more patches –
Photo details – I was using an 85mm f 1.8 lens. Typical settings were 6 seconds at f 2.8, 3200 ISO. In retrospect, a fast wide angle lens would also have been useful.
