After doing a few chores this morning, I decided a local walk would be good. So I caught a bus to Bexley North and then set off down the Two Valleys Track – along Wolli Creek. I then continued up the Cooks River and walked home.
I carried a camera with macros lens and tripod to photograph fungi – but ended up not using it. Despite a little bit of recent rain, it was not enough for new fungi to emerge. Luckily I also carried my bird camera with a moderate telephoto lens.
What I was pleased to find was quite a few orchids out along Wolli Creek.
Nodding Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis nutans
Superb Fairy-wren
Superb Fairy-wren and Red-browed Finch
Nodding Greenhood Orchids – Pterostylis nutans
Trim Greenhood Orchid – Pterostylis concinna
Epacris longiflora
This Black-faced Cuckoo-shrike was perched on the top of a tree in Gough Whitlam Park.
And the usual Little Pied Cormorants were perched in the mangroves –
I dint spot any Sacred Kingfishers this time. Perhaps the tide was too high? It was also starting to get a bit windy.
At Illawarra Road, I spotted this Willie Wagtail. It was the same one I had seen on my previous walk here. So I sat down to watch it hunt.
It is truly amazing to see it’s incredible flying captured by the photos.
Then to Marrickville Golf Course to see if I could spot any Tawny Frogmouths. Last visit I had seen two. This time I spotted three – all huddled together on the same branch. Perhaps they were felling cold?
I eventually found a spot with a clear view –
Dibble Avenue Waterhole was quiet, but I did see an Australasian Grebe. It seemed to be sleeping.
