Fungi at Castra Falls – 27 July 2023

This was the last of my Tasmanian Fungi outings. I travelled with my sister to Castra Falls in the Nietta locality south of Penguin. Like previous excursions, the fungi was a lot poorer than previous visits, but we still managed to find some interesting fungi out. Also – the Castra Falls circuit is a delightful track passing through rugged and very beautiful country.

It was apparent soon after setting off along the track that the area has been severely damaged by recent floods. Many thanks to the local volunteers that work hard to maintain the track.

Here is some of the fungi was saw –

Crust fungus with gutation

Lanzia lanaripes

Growing on a tree –

Jelly Fungi – Perhaps Dacrymyces cupularis –

Silver Falls

I think this is Mitrula sp. It was going on the trunk of a tree fern.

We saw a lot of Chromelosporium carneum

Clavaria pusio

Chromelosporium carneum

Grey discs on wood. Perhaps Phaeohelotium geogenum –

Heterotextus peziziformis

Chromelosporium carneum

Cortinarius rotundisporus

Chromelosporium carneum

Mycena interrupta

Xylaria castorea

We saw more of the brown club. This was going on a fallen over tree fern trunk. Mitrula sp.

Perhaps Phaeohelotium geogenum –

Geoglossum sp.

Hydnum repandum

Calycina citrina

Psathyrella echinata

Clavulinopsis amoena

Helicogloea compressa

Unknown –

The creek –

Humidicutis mavis

Hygrocybe sp.

Geoglossum sp.

Clavaria zollingeri

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Ramaria sp.

Cuphophyllus aurantiopallens

Entoloma sp.

Leotica lubrica

Thanks to David Waters for identifying this yellow nematode as Fletchamia sugdeni, Canary Worm. A forest floor predator.

Leotica lubrica
