Cooks River Tawny Frogmouths – 8 November 2023

After the Greenway Bird Survey, I talked Valerie into joining me on a walk down the Cooks River to look for the Tawny Frogmouths. So we caught the light rail to Dulwich Hill, and then the train to Canterbury Station, and were soon walking downstream.

We looked in the trees in the Close St Reserve, and had no luck finding any Tawnies. So we continued down to the Boat Harbour – where we  had more luck. We soon found the family  of two parents and two chicks.

We then continued to Ewen Park, and looked at the nest there.

On my previous trip, I had seen a single chick. This time, it didn’t seem to be visible.

Our patience was rewarded – and we spotted the small chick’s beak –

And then the chick started moving a bit and stretched its wings.

This was good to see!
