Tempe Bird Survey – 9 December 2023

In the early morning, before it got really hot (it was forecast to reach 40°C later in the day), I joined the Tempe Birdos for their monthly bird survey. I was in the group surveying the wetlands.

Here are some of the birds we saw –

Olive-backed Oriole

Dusky Moorhen with chicks

Hardheads

Australasian Grebe

Superb Fairy-wren

Dusky Moorhen

Red Wattlebird

Rainbow Lorikeets

Dusky Moorhen – juvenile

We also heard a number of other birds including a Little Grassbird and a Channel-billed Cuckoo.

As usual – we finished with morning tea at Tempe Reserve, and this was a special Christmas morning tea. Thanks to all those who brought also some lovely food to share!
