I thought it was going to be fairly quiet at Barton Park. When I arrived I went to Landing Lights Wetland and saw some Teals (about 30) – and very few other birds. No large waders, and no Pied Stilts. The water level had gone back up – so no Dotterels and no sign of the Sharp-tailed Sandpipers I had seen on my previous visit.
I left the wetlands, and started walking down the road next to the Spring St Canal, when I saw a Grey Goshawk flying on the far side of the canal.
I watched it circle around and then land.
It then flew off down the canal. I keep walking down towards Muddy Creek.
Along the way I spotted some smaller birds –
Superb Fairy-wren
Silvereye
Superb Fairy-wren
Then, near the bridge on the Spring St Canal, all of sudden the Grey Goshawk flew overhead.
Unfortunately it flew away towards Muddy Creek.
Some more small birds –
Red-browed Finches
Wille Wagtail
There were large shoals of small fish in the canal –
Back at Landing Lights Wetland, three Pied Stilts suddenly flew in –
I then decided to catch a bus back to Tempe and walk up the Cooks River.
Here is an Australasian Darter on Fatima Island –
I spotted this Sacred Kingfisher from the road bridge over the Cooks River at Tempe.
I quietly approached it from the salt-marsh, but it flew off before I could get some better photos.
At Gough Whitlam Park, I spotted the resident pair of Tawny Frogmouths –
No sign of any more Kingfishers as I walked upstream. The usual Little Pied Cormorants were there –
