Cremorne to Taronga Walk (including a visit to the Zoo) – 14 March 2024

I was able to join Brian Everingham, and party for a second walk during the week. This was a National Parks Association of NSW walk from Cremorne to Taronga via the foreshore tracks.

The party, Sue, Valerie and Brian met at Circular Quay and were soon on the ferry to Cremorne Point.

Near the ferry wharf, Cremorne Point is a reserve with a lighthouse at the end.

We noticed quite a few Brush Turkeys about –

The lighthouse, known as Robertsons Point Lighthouse, is worth visiting.

You can climb down a ladder to the rock platform. The lighthouse looks identical to the Booraghee Lighthouse  at Bradleys Head.

Nearby was flock of Variegated Fairy-wrens

Then it is easy pleasant walking along the foreshore track. I had walked along this section back in 2013 on a long daywalk from Manly to Wilsons Point. On that trip we did not have time for many side trips.

At one spot, we explored some tracks to visit a beautiful cultivated garden that was made by two locals many years ago.

Mosman Bay – named after Archibald Mosman – an early whaler that lived in the area in the 1830’s

After Mosman Bay, we had to climb some steep stairs to get over a residential headland, and then dropped down to Sirius Cove, where we stopped for a break.

A little further along, we detoured off the main path to visit an artist’s colony set up by Arthur Streeton.

White-browed Scrubwren

This was the spot where artists had set up their easels to paint.

We then climbed back up to the main track, and visited a nearby headland. and then walked a short distance to Taronga Zoo.

We all had yearly Friends of the Zoo Passes, we then enjoyed a quick visit to the Zoo –

Once again, thanks to Brian for organising another very pleasant and interesting outing.
