Birdwood Gully – Fungi and Orchids – 21 March 2024

Sue and Valerie  joined me for day at Springwood, where we walked down Birdwood Gully – on search for fungi and orchids.  The fungi was not super abundant – but we did find a nice variety of species.

On the way down, we found some fungi out –

Oudemansiella gigaspora

Perhaps Collybia sp.

Wasp Orchids – Chiloglottis seminuda

Now – lower down – along the creek.

Rimbachia cf. bryophila

Phaeoclavulina abietina

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Hymenotorrendiella eucalypti

Trichoglossum hirsutum

These bald clubs were ver hard to spot. We later pointed them out to another party that was looking for fungi. And they later told us where to look for some yellow coral fungi that had found, that we had missed.

Tremella sp.

Hygrocybe sp.

This visit, we only found a few waxcaps – and they were all red. There were none of the blue Entolomas remaining that we had seen in profusion on previous visits.

Boletellus sp.

Cyptotrama asprata

Small grey discs growing on a stick –

Cantherellus concinnus

Very old Phaeoclavulina abietina (infected with mould)

Clavulinopsis amoena

Omphalotus nidiformis

Hygrocybe sp.

Austroboletus lacunosis

Earthstars – Geastrum triplex

Boletellus sp.

Cantherellus concinnus

And some more orchids –

Pterostylis acuminata

Wasp Orchid – Chiloglottis seminuda

Pterostylis acuminata

Walking back, we spotted this nice patch of Clavaria zollingeri that we had missed earlier.

Clavulinopsis sulcata

Zooming in, you can see some of the small animals living on the fungus –

Phaeoclavulina ochracea

Tylopilus aff. balloui

It had been a very pleasant day out. Many thanks to Valerie and Sue for great company on the day.
