I had been planning on going on a fungi survey in the Blue Mountains at Coachwood Glen. But the road had been washed out due to recent storms and was still closed. So I was now able to join the Tempe Birdos on their monthly bird survey.
This time, I joined the group surveying Tempe Reserve. As usual, the survey ended with morning tea. After that, I walked home via the Cooks River.
But first, here is a Pacific Black Duck in the lower pond the wetlands –
Here is a pair of Magpie Larks perched on a boat –
The male, with a black face is on the right.
Little Pied Cormorant
We had spotted a very distant Sacred Kingfisher. It was perched on the oysters near the Princes Highway Bridge (see first photo as well). Here is being harassed by a Willie Wagtail –
Crested Pigeon
Australian White Ibis
Below, you can see it has caught small crab –
Noisy Miner
Rainbow Lorikeet
Little Pied Cormorant
Little Black Cormorant
We could see on the far side seawall, that new habitat has been added. Homes for small marine organisms.
After morning tea and a chat with the group, I slowly walked home along the Cooks River. Here are some more birds I saw –
Australasian Darter on Fatima Island –
White-faced Heron
Little Pied Cormorants
Little Black Cormorant
Along Gough Whitlam Park, I kept a lookout for more Sacred Kingfishers. I did spot one as it flew to the far side –
And a shot as it flew back –
Another Little Black Cormorant
And further upstream, another Australasian Darter –
And another Little Black Cormorant
And I had a look at the Dibble Avenue Waterhole. Here is a Willie Wagtail –
