Canyoning in the Blue Mountains – 13 January 2016

Last year, I had visited been on a trip to a new canyon first descended by Tom Brennan and party. My friends Bob and Doug were keen to visit this canyon and I was happy to visit it again.

It was a hot fine day as we headed up the mountains. After parking, we headed down a fire road and then into the bush to the start of the canyon. On the way we passed a fine cluster of Large Tongue Orchids.

Soon, the creek we were following started to drop into a canyon.  A nice abseil down a slot brought us into the canyon. Another shorter abseil followed soon after. Then the canyon levelled out for a bit and went around a corner. The next abseil was soon after this, and took us down to a nice section of canyon with a large cave and some giant tree ferns. Actually, it looked like the tree ferns had grown too high and were not too healthy.

The next abseil was quite long and we used two ropes to descend down a very greasy wall.

Then a steep section of creek bed before the final abseil down to a larger creek.

We then continued along the larger creek for a short distance before we found a pass to climb out and head back to the fire road. There were some swims and wades in this larger creek.

On the way back to the car, we spotted some more orchids.

This was a very nice day out. More photos are on my website here.
