Now it was time for the Greenway Bird Survey along the Hawthorne Canal. As usual, we started at Taverners Hill Light Rail Station and finished at Hawthorne Light Rail Station.

Here are some of the birds we saw –

Red Wattlebird

Laughing Kookaburra

Brush Turkeys

Magpie Lark and nest –

Willie Wagtail

On the previous survey, we had stopped some White-faced Heron nestlings. There are three much larger chicks now –

Pelican

Australasian Figbirds

A Brown Goshawk flew past –

This Common Myna has caught a skink –

A bit later we saw the Brown Goshawk much closer. It few down and grabbed a Common Myna. The Myna later escaped, and the Goshawk was surrounded by other birds. It flew off –

After that, the Mynas and Figbirds were very vigilant.
