I spent an enjoyable afternoon walking along Wolli Creek between Bexley North and Tempe yesterday. I was mainly on the lookout for any fungi, but I also spotted a lot of lizards and a multitude of millipedes.
It is very early in the fungi season, but there has been a lot of rain recently, so I thought it was time to check out Wolli Creek. There was a fair bit out, but most of the fungi was not that interesting – just white Amanta species (white mushrooms).
Being on he lookout for fungi, I could not help noticing a lot of millipedes out. Perhaps they all like to come out after a wet spell?
And lizards! Lots of small skinks – I often see them on the track. But this trip, for he first time at Wolli Creek, I spotted a nice Blue Tongue Lizard. It was only about 50 cm off the track, hidden in a thicket of scrub. It was lying in the one spot, so I had time to take a few photos. But it didn’t poke out its blue tongue despite me waiting a fair while. As I moved off, a lady came past with a dog. The dog was off leash (despite signs saying to keep dogs on leash) and I was worried that it may disturb the lizard. I waited and watched. The dog trotted past the lizard completely oblivious to it.
Wolli Creek is one area that I will once again regularly check for fungi. Thinag shoyd get better in the Autumn.
